Tried By Fire, Inc., a local nonprofit dedicated to assisting justice-involved women during their reentry journey, has received a special invitation to participate in the Belk Spring Charity Sale event at the Crabtree Valley Mall in Raleigh from June 5 through 7, 2026.
Every nonprofit is interested in raising money, and Belk offers this opportunity twice a year through their spring and fall charity sales. Nonprofits are invited to sell tickets at $5 each in advance or during the Charity Sale Days and are allowed to keep 100% of ticket proceeds. Ticket holders then receive $5 off their first purchase a 25% off stackable coupon. It’s a win-win!
Tried By Fire, Inc. has participated in these Belk sales events for the last four years at the New Bern Mall to bring awareness and donations for My Sister’s House, a transitional home for women who need a safe place to live, and supportive services, when they are released from incarceration. This is the first year, however, that this local nonprofit has been invited to join the Spring Charity Sale event outside New Bern in the largest mall in the Research Triangle area, anchored by Belk and Macy’s. The Crabtree Valley Mall is located at 4325 Glenwood Avenue in Raleigh.
“This invitation from Belk in Raleigh recognizes the significant impact My Sister’s House has had in serving justice-involved women in eastern North Carolina and we appreciate this opportunity to bring awareness of our reentry and recovery program through secure housing and supportive services to a larger audience,” said Bonita Simmons, founder and CEO of Tried By Fire, Inc.
During 2025, the equivalent of 980 nights of safe housing were provided for justice-involved women at My Sister’s House in New Bern, with residents attending 455 hours of training, focusing on education, counseling, and life skills development. In addition, both resident and non-resident justice-involved women benefitted from mentorship and support in navigating requirements for available services and probation guidelines.
For those in the New Bern and Craven County area, who may be interested in helping this nonprofit while getting a “shopping deal,” Tried By Fire, Inc. will also be participating in Belk Charity Sale Days in the New Bern Mall from June 5 through 7. Volunteers from the Board, staff, and My Sister’s House will be there to sell tickets and share information about the partnerships and programs provided to women during their reentry and recovery journey.
