There's So Much More in 2024 With New Bern Civic Theatre's Encore Series

New Bern Civic Theatre hosts an active array of live stage events beyond the 8 major Season productions of 2024. In fact, only a handful of tickets remain for NBCT's Season finale musical GREASE, November 8-23. However, from MumFest weekend through the Christmas holidays NBCT's Encore Series fills calendar weekends with more great entertainment options. And, with The Athens Lobby Bar stocked with a wide selection of wines, beers, hard seltzers, ciders, soft drinks and snacks that can be enjoyed in the house seats during performances, a night at the theatre will always be extraordinary and enjoyable.
 
The Encore Series 2024 calendar offers something for everyone that at times may not be for everyone. For example, select music concerts and the Walk-In Bathtub Improv Comedy nights purposefully offer those with edgier tastes an experience in the historic Athens Theatre who may not opt for a traditional play or musical.

Coming up for the Encore Series: On Friday, October 11th at 7:30PM, NBCT presents VON ATTICA. This is an original band with roots in classic rock that has a distinct 80's/90's rock sound similar to Led Zeppelin, Soundgarden and Guns N Roses. VON ATTICA shakes the rafters for an authentic high volume, high energy rock concert. On October 12th at 7:30PM, Walk-In Bathtub Improv Comedy brings the laughs with their annual MumFest After Party. Many locals and visitors have found it's far more enjoyable to hang out and spend the evening in town on Saturday rather than trying to leave as festival street activities close for the day. Walk-In Bathtub comedy shows are rated [R] and are intended for adult audiences. On October 18th, 19th & 20th, Closer Than Ever takes to The Athens stage. This is the hit off-Broadway musical starring Von Lewis and Abbey Clark Lewis (Lewis n Clark) and five additional, well known singers from our region. Closer Than Ever promises to be an unforgettable experience for those who love lush, sentimental show tunes and amazing performances. 

As December arrives the tone shifts to events that enrich the holiday atmosphere. On December 6th NBCT is excited to bring a family oriented holiday show to The Athens that will warm hearts with favorite songs and stories of the season. 'Home for The Holidays' starring Broadway veteran and NC native, Kristin Wetherington, is an elegant evening featuring singers, dancers and live musicians that will add a dash of sparkle to any holiday plans. Walk-In Bathtub Improve Comedy will take stage for their final show of 2024 with a special Holiday Edition certain to lampoon and illiterate all things holiday on December 7th. The following weekend on December 13th, 'Die Hard' will be shown on the big screen. Yes, the 'Die Hard' with Bruce Willis. Some may question as to why this was chosen as the 2024 Christmas film event? All will be answered for those who attend. At $7 a ticket with movie-themed games and contests it might not matter in the end. Finally, to close 2024 events The Bonafides will perform their rescheduled concert on Saturday, December 14th with a tribute to the legendary Jerry Garcia. The Bonafides are New Bern's favorite string band. Their concerts are filled with imaginative arrangements of famous songs, as well as witty banter and anecdotes about the artist/band being celebrated. Though not holiday music, this is the perfect event to attend together with family and friends of any age.      
 
There is something happening live on stage nearly every weekend all year. It is one of many reasons NBCT continues to serve New Bern as the heart of the art in downtown.
