Craven Arts Council & Gallery and The Next Chapter Books and Art New Bern are proud to host an open mic event from 11 am – 3 pm on Saturday, October 11th, 2025 in the Main Gallery of Bank of the Arts. This event will feature original spoken word, poetry, and short excerpts, and each performer will have up to 5 minutes to present. Participants are encouraged to reserve a spot online at https://thenextchapternc.com/home/whats-happening/. The Writer’s Voice is free to attend and participate, and all works performed must be original. The author must be present if someone else is reading written work.
The Next Chapter Books and Art is home to published books and artworks from a variety of local authors, artist works and used books of a variety of genres, located on 320 S Front St, New Bern, NC. Since 2021, The Next Chapter has been owned by Michelle Garren-Flye, a multi-published author of romance, children’s books, poetry, and editor of The Next Chapter Literary Magazine. Garren-Flye was named the Heart of Pamilco Poet Laureate, and her recent projects include UnSong, a book of illustrated poetry, HourGlass, an adult comic book based on her poetry, and 100 Warm Days of Haiku, an illustrated book of haiku.
