Juvenile Reentry Employment Project to Hold Kickoff Meeting at Craven CC Volt Center, April 18

Re-entry Month continues this week as the Juvenile Reentry Employment Project (JREP) hosts a kickoff meeting at Craven Community College’s (Craven CC) Volt Center on April 18. The media is invited to attend but space is limited and RSVPs are requested.

The Juvenile Reentry Employment Project (JREP) aims to address juvenile reentry needs and increase their prosocial strengths. Deliverables include vocational training, employment assistance, and intensive wraparound case management. Specifically, reentry youth will gain access to supportive services such as housing and transportation and participate in training certification programs to increase employability in profitable markets.

When: April 18, 2024; 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: Craven Community College Volt Center; 205 First Street, New Bern, NC 28562

Agenda: Stakeholders are invited to review the JREP grant project, discuss involvement and tour the Craven Community College Volt Center. The local media is also invited to attend for interview opportunities.

•           NCDPS Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (DJJDP) staff - Court Services, Community Programs, and Reentry 

•           Craven CC Volt Center staff

•           Pitt County Re-Entry Council

•           Craven-Pamlico Reentry Council

•           NC Works

•           Juvenile Crime Prevention Council program staff

•           Methodist Homes for Children

•           District Court Judges (District 3)

•           Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) Federal Program Officer and Technical Assistance Representative

•           Boyd Mechanical (potential employer)

•           Acivilate, Inc. (information sharing platform called Pokket)

This project is a joint effort between the DJJDP, local community college partners and reentry experts.

Re-Entry Month, sometimes referred to as Second Chance Month, dates back to 2017 when it was founded by the Prison Fellowship. New Bern Mayor Dana Outlaw also proclaimed the second week in April as Re-Entry Week in New Bern in 2017, followed by a proclamation the following year from the White House establishing the month of April as Re-Entry Month. NC Gov. Roy Cooper also declared April to be Second Chance Month with a proclamation issued March 28, 2024.
