The Underpants: A Hilarious Farce Written by Comedy Legend Steve Martin New Bern, NC -- Hold on to your bloomers as The Underpants, a sharp and satirical farce by Steve Martin, makes its way to the New Bern Civic Theatre stage during the weekends of Jan. 30-Feb. 8.
When Louise's undergarments drop in a very public display, the resulting chaos has everyone gasping, laughing, and questioning what exactly constitutes a wardrobe malfunction. This hilarious romp of mistaken identities, wild antics, and laugh-out-loud moments explores what happens when a simple accident turns into an all-out spectacle. Louise and her husband, Theo, find themselves at the center of a chain of events that involves a host of eccentric characters, a few misunderstandings, and a lot of laughs. “At its heart, The Underpants is a joyful celebration of human awkwardness, desire, and the trouble we get into when we take ourselves too seriously,” said director, Craig Ramey. “This cast has embraced the silliness and freedom of Steve Martin’s comedy, making bold, hilarious choices that have allowed the show to grow and become a truly unique experience.” Originally written in 1911 by German playwright Carl Sternheim and titled Die Hose, this adaptation of The Underpants showcases Martin’s brilliant wit with a classic farcical plot that will have you laughing from start to finish. This show is rated PG-13 for language.
