A colorful art exhibition in the Main Gallery at the Bank of the Arts for the month of May

Craven Arts Council & Gallery is proud to present their May Main Gallery exhibition, ROY G BIV, at Bank of the Arts. ROY G BIV features a display of artworks from over 150 artists highlighting the use of color. Artists were challenged to create unique pieces using a limited color palette and identical 12” x 12” cradled boards. Craven Arts Council & Gallery will host an opening reception for the exhibition during the downtown New Bern ArtWalk, Friday May 8th , from 5 pm-8 pm. This exhibition offers up to $1,000 in awards and will be judged by juror Katya Hutchinson.May 2026
ROY G BIV is an exhibition created by Craven Arts Council & Gallery, featuring over 150 local and regional artists. Each panel in the Main Gallery at the Bank of the Arts will be filled with works featuring one color per panel, creating a spectrum displayed across the gallery. Color categories featured in the exhibition are red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, white, and black. All works will be judged for a chance to win one of twenty awards with prizes, announced during the ArtWalk reception on May 8th at 6 pm. On May 9th at 11 am, a free juror’s talk will be hosted at the Bank of the Arts with ROY G BIV Judge Katya Hutchinson, open to the public.
ROY G BIV Judge Katya Hutchinson earned her Bachelor of Arts from the University of Hawai’i at Hilo in 2019. After relocating to North Carolina, she obtained her MFA from East Carolina University in 2022, with a concentration in Printmaking. Heavily influenced by history, literature, and lore, Katya’s artwork incorporates layers of symbolism woven into classic compositions. Her etchings have been exhibited across the United States, as well as in Croatia and Canada. As an educator, Katya has developed a specialty in teaching foundational art courses and working with artists across all mediums. Currently, she serves as the First-Year Coordinator for the School of Art and Design at East Carolina University, where she enjoys the opportunity to introduce students to the alchemy and methodology of studio arts.
Bank of the Arts is home of the Craven Arts Council & Gallery, a free entry art gallery serving the Craven County community, open Tuesday – Saturday, 10 am – 5 pm.
