Main Gallery – Juneteenth

Craven Arts Council & Gallery presents art exhibition highlighting local African American artists in honor of Juneteenth

June 2026
Juneteenth is a national holiday celebrated on June 19th every year commemorating the announcement of the Emancipation Proclamation in the state of Texas after the Civil War on June 19th, 1865. In honor of this historic celebration of freedom in the south, Craven Arts Council & Gallery (CACG) will host Juneteenth, an exhibition featuring artwork from local and regional African American artists. The exhibit will go beyond just history—it will explore culture, identity, and personal expression through a wide range of artistic styles. Visitors can expect to experience pieces that reflect both the struggles and the beauty of Black life, past and present, while also highlighting creativity, pride, and community. CACG will host an open reception during the June ArtWalk from 5 – 8 pm on Friday, June 12, inviting the public to meet the artists, view the opening display, and more.

Juneteenth is curated by Diamond Campbell, a mixed media artist showcasing her work in acrylics, textures, fabrics, and many illustration styles of realism styles. Participating artists in this year’s exhibition include Crystal Felton, Tyrone Brown, Chrystal Fonville, Ceven Bryant and more. Each of the 8 panels in the Main Gallery will showcase a different artist, giving a platform for each artist to exhibit their artwork of various sizes, themes, and styles. Additionally, Artwalk on June 12th is featured as part of Juneteenth of New Bern’s 2026 month-long celebration.

Bank of the Arts is home of the Craven Arts Council & Gallery, a free admission art gallery open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm.
