Glorious Fourth will be celebrated at Tryon Palace on Friday, July 4, in commemoration of Independence Day. The celebration begins at 9:00 a.m. on the Tryon Palace Historic Site and is FREE to the public. Glorious Fourth offers a wonderful opportunity to experience a live reading of the Declaration of Independence. Signed by our forefathers in 1776, almost 250 years ago, the Declaration of Independence served to unify the thirteen colonies and sever their political ties to England.
Commemorative Festivities for Glorious Fourth – Tryon Palace Historic Site. Free to Attend.
9:00 a.m. – Palace Front gates open to the public. Admittance to the Palace Historic Site is FREE until noon.
10:00 a.m. – The Fife and Drum Corps and militia will parade from the Palace front gates to the Palace’s south lawn. Following, there will be a live reading of the Declaration of Independence on the Palace’s south entry steps.
10:25 a.m. – Tryon Palace’s Fife and Drum Corps will perform.
10:35 a.m. – Militia fire their muskets.
The famous Pepsi Can will be onsite and offering free Pepsi product and water until 12 noon, Courtesy of Minges Bottling Group.
In addition to the commemorative event on the Tryon Palace historic grounds, America’s Tapestry will be at the North Carolina History Center from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. Join members of the Embroidery Guild of America who are stitching a panel on North Carolina’s 250th anniversary tapestry representing the Colony of North Carolina. North Carolina’s contribution to the rich tapestry of our nation’s history and identity is an image of the Edenton Tea Party. Come see their progress and join in with a stitch of your own.
Tryon Palace will also be offering a special tour on July 4, in addition to the Palace tour.
The “Caswell’s Capital” tour focuses on the Revolutionary War history of Tryon Palace and North Carolina and includes a visit to the new Revolutionary War Gallery in the Palace. This tour will be offered at 11:00 a.m., 11:30 a.m. 12:00 p.m., and 12:30 p.m.
Admittance to the Tryon Palace historic gardens and grounds will be free to the public from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. for the duration of the commemorative event. After 12:00 p.m., an admittance ticket is required. One Day Passes include either a Palace tour or a Caswell’s Capital tour. Galleries and Gardens and Gardens Passes will also be available.
