John Moore Film Screening Local Racial Conciliation Coalition presents Film Screening on John Moore

The Forward Together Coalition is proud to present a film screening on the lynching of Dover native, John Moore, on Saturday, August 29th at 3:30 pm at the West New Bern Recreation Center located at 1225 Pinetree Dr, New Bern, NC. The coalition will present a 10-minute film created by local filmmaker Francine Robinson, following the NAACP Luncheon Fundraiser at the Elks Lodge providing an opportunity to showcase the film in a community setting. The film screening is free and open to the public, however donations are accepted via paypal, cash, or check.

John Moore, from Dover, NC, was lynched after an accusation of assaulting a white woman in Clarks, NC on August 25th. Moore was captured and brought to court for a hearing in New Bern, NC. After being arraigned, the following night, at approximately 1 am on the morning on of August 27th, Moore was abducted by a group of masked white men and taken to the Neuse River Bridge, located downtown New Bern, where he was hung and shot in an act of racial violence.

The Forward Together Coalition was formed in 2019 by local organizations, nonprofits, and community members to take part in the Equal Justice Initiatives' Community Remembrances Projects, to document, recognize, and honor victims of racial terror in Craven County. The coalition has since held various meetings and three Remembrance events in honor of two known Craven County victims of racial violence, Percy Berry and John Moore.
