Figure Drawing Drop In Sessions

Craven Arts to host figure drawing sessions at Bank of the Arts

Bank of the Arts, 317 Middle St
3pm-5pm, May 27, 2026

Craven Arts Council & Gallery is proud to host a Figure Drawing Drop In Session, hosted by local artist Courtney Durocher. These low-cost sessions will offer artists the opportunity to sketch, paint or create from poses by a live, semi-clothed model.

Figure drawing builds fundamental drawing skills, observational ability, and understanding of movement, gesture, and the human form. Sessions start with 1–5 minute poses for quick, gestural sketches, extending to longer poses for more detailed study and works. These provide practice for the artist, and can be the foundation for later works.

Sessions will be led by Courtney Durocher, a local artist with experience in physical and digital media, specializing in illustration and comics. Durocher will provide instruction and feedback to upon request, and lead sessions. The sessions are open to all artists and mediums.

Craven Arts Council is offering these sessions as a pilot program to gauge interest in figure drawing for artists, with the first three sessions planned for May 27, June 10, and June 24, from 3-5pm. The cost will be $5 for members and $10 for nonmembers of Craven Arts Council & Gallery. Artists will pay at the door and registration is not required. Artists should bring their own materials, paper, easels, and other tools, though some easels will be available for use. Participants may find out more at www.cravenarts.org.

Craven Arts Council and Gallery is open 10am-5pm Tuesday through Saturday, and admission to all galleries is free and open to the public.
