Craven Arts Council & Gallery is proud to present their Director’s Gallery exhibition for the month of April – The Rat Selfie Series by Jennifer WinterRose. This exhibition will feature gouache portraits of WinterRose her pet rats over the years, highlighting personal health battles by focusing on her emotions and behavioral moods she experienced in each portrait. This exhibition is free and open to the public. An open reception will be hosted at Artwalk, Friday, April 10th 5 – 8pm.

Jennifer WinterRose is an illustrator and fine artist currently residing in Kinston, North Carolina. She attended the Atlanta College of Art and is an award recipient from the 2024-2025 Artist Support Grant from Craven Arts Council & Gallery. While much of her work was focused on pen and ink and marker, she has found a deep love of watercolor and gouache in the past 5 years, and most of her focus is on painting both representative and fantastical subjects. More and more of her work features her favorite creatures, focusing primarily on rats. She hopes her advocacy of these small creatures will help people see some of what she sees in them. Speaking on her work, WinterRose says “I don’t think it’s even finished, and probably never will be; but to be honest that is all I can wish for in my life: an unending tapestry of creativity and companionship.”

Bank of the Arts is home to the Craven Arts Council & Gallery is free and open to the public Tuesday through Saturday from 10:00 am – 5:00 pm.
