CarolinaEast Medical Center has been named by U.S. News & World Report on its 2025-2026 Best Hospitals list as a Best Regional Hospital in the Coastal Plain, and a High Performing hospital for Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm Repair, Colon Cancer Surgery, Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), Heart Arrhythmia, Heart Attack, Heart Failure, Hip Replacement, Kidney Failure, Knee Replacement, Pacemaker Implantation, and Pneumonia. This is the highest distinction a hospital can earn for U.S. News’ Best Hospitals Procedures & Conditions ratings.
U.S. News’ annual Procedures & Conditions ratings are designed to assist patients and their health care providers in making informed decisions about where to receive care for challenging health conditions or elective procedures. U.S. News evaluated more than 4,400 hospitals across 15 adult specialties and 22 procedures and conditions; only one third of them earned an award. To determine the Best Hospitals, U.S. News analyzed each hospital’s performance based on objective measures such as risk-adjusted mortality rates, preventable complications and level of nursing care.
“For more than three decades, U.S. News has been an invaluable guide for patients,” said Managing Editor and Chief of Health Analysis Ben Harder at U.S. News. “Hospitals designated as ‘High Performing’ by U.S. News demonstrate a consistent ability to provide excellent care for particular medical procedures and conditions, showcasing their specialized expertise as well as dedication to exceptional patient outcomes.”
CarolinaEast Medical Center has received the American College of Cardiology’s NCDR Chest Pain ̶ MI Registry Platinum Performance Achievement Award for 2025. CarolinaEast is one of only 323 hospitals nationwide to receive the honor.
The award recognizes CarolinaEast’s commitment and success in implementing a higher standard of care for heart attack patients and signifies that CarolinaEast has reached an aggressive goal of treating these patients to standard levels of care as outlined by the American College of Cardiology/American Heart Association clinical guidelines and recommendations. CarolinaEast has also once again earned the HeartCare Center National Distinction of Excellence and currently boasts an accredited Cardiac Cath Lab Center with PCI, Chest Pain Center with PCI, and Heart Failure Center by ACC Accreditation Services.
CarolinaEast has also recently received the Get With The Guidelines®-Coronary Artery Disease NSTEMI Gold with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll, Coronary Artery Disease STEMI Receiving Center Gold with Target: Type 2 Diabetes Honor Roll, and Stroke Bronze achievement awards. These awards recognize CarolinaEast’s commitment to following up-to-date, research-based guidelines for the treatment of heart disease and stroke, ultimately leading to more lives saved, shorter recovery times, and fewer readmissions to the
hospital. Heart disease and stroke are the No. 1 and No. 5 causes of death in the United States, respectively, according to the American Heart Association. Studies show patients can recover better when providers consistently follow treatment guidelines.
“We are incredibly proud to be recognized for offering high-quality, life-saving, and life-changing procedures right here in our community,” said Michael Smith, President and CEO, CarolinaEast Health System. “These awards are a reflection of the dedication and skill of our entire team. Every member of the CarolinaEast team plays a vital role, and I sincerely thank each one for their remarkable work and unwavering commitment.”
