CAROLINAEAST EMPLOYEES DONATE GIFT CARDS FOR HURRICANE RELIEF AT WESTERN NC HOSPITAL

CarolinaEast Health System employees donated $10,000 in gift cards to support the recovery efforts in the western part of North Carolina following a devastating hurricane. The CarolinaEast Foundation organized the effort and collected gift cards from staff throughout October and November of 2024. They have partnered with Pardee Hospital Foundation in Hendersonville.

Several employees of UNC Health Pardee experienced their own tragedies during Hurricane Helene in September 2024. “One of our physicians faced an alarming situation when his car was swept away by floodwaters. After swimming to safety, he walked to work and changed into his scrubs and worked not one, but two night shifts,” shared Amy Treece, Executive Director for Pardee Hospital Foundation. “Similarly, one of our medical technologists braved perilous conditions to reach the hospital, walking two miles through the storm to ensure she could fulfill her commitment to her team and patients.”

In 2018, New Bern and surrounding areas, including staff throughout CarolinaEast Health System, experienced firsthand the devastating effects of a hurricane, as well as the continued need for assistance well after the severe weather event.

“We at CarolinaEast understand the commitment made by healthcare workers to the community during such disasters by continuing to provide great care through every situation,” said Jared Brinkley, Executive Director, CarolinaEast Foundaiton. “The heroic examples Pardee shared with us demonstrate the commitment healthcare workers make every day. CarolinaEast is proud to partner with Pardee and hope that this will provide a little respite going into the holiday season.”
