Craven Arts Council & Gallery is proud to present “At the Gallery: Jimmy Van Heusen” performed by John Van Dyke on September 27th, 2025 at 7 pm. Doors will open at 6 pm, with a pre-concert talk beginning at 6:30 pm.

Jimmy Van Heusen was a two-time Emmy and four- time Academy Award winning composer of the mid-20th century, composing pop, jazz, show tunes and more. Born Edward Chester Babcock on January 26th, 1913, Heusen grew up entertaining audiences from a young age through his quick wits and musical talents. At the age of 16, his childhood friend helped him develop his stage name to what audiences know now as “Jimmy Van Heusen”. He moved to New York in his young adulthood to increase his opportunities of success in the entertainment industry. Teaming up with Johnny Burke, Heusen began writing songs for Paramount Pictures further developing his career, continuing on to work with various esteemed composers of the time, publishing over 60 songs for radio, and even co-producing The Frank Sinatra Show with Sammy Cahn. Heusen was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame” in 1971. Heusen is recognized for famous songs such as “Here’s That Rainy Day” and “But Beautiful” from his own collection, “Come Fly with Me” by Frank Sinatra, “Ain’t that a Kick in the Head” by Dean Martin and more.

John Van Dyke has been singing professionally for more than 27 years doing everything from R&B to classic rock to Broadway, although his first love is jazz. Many know John from his work performing at New Bern Civic Theater or with the Rivertowne Players. John enjoys connecting with the audience through performing and taking the audience on a musical journey.
