FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
New Bern, North Carolina — Allie Cline Photography LLC has announced new policies governing the public use of photographs of children in response to the rapidly changing capabilities of artificial intelligence and growing concerns surrounding the use of children's images online.
The updated policies are designed to give parents greater control over how photographs of their children are used while establishing clearer standards for privacy, consent, and artificial intelligence use within the photography business.
Under the new policy, parents and legal guardians will be able to specifically authorize where photographs of minors may be displayed rather than providing one broad marketing release. Families may independently choose whether images can be used on Allie Cline Photography's social media accounts, website and online portfolio, printed marketing materials, studio displays and portfolio samples, professional publications or competitions, and paid advertising. Families may also choose to keep their images entirely private.
Any category that is not specifically authorized will not be permitted.
The updated agreement will also include additional protections for teenage clients. Minors ages 13 through 17 will be given an opportunity to express whether they are comfortable with the public use of their photographs in addition to the legal authorization provided by their parent or guardian.
"Parents trust me with photographs of the people who matter most to them, and that responsibility does not end when I press the shutter," said Allie Cline, owner and photographer of Allie Cline Photography. "Artificial intelligence has changed what can be done with an image once it exists online. I cannot promise that no publicly accessible photograph could ever be copied or misused, but I can be intentional about what I publish, where I publish it, what information accompanies it, and the permission I receive before sharing it."
The revised policies will also expressly state that photographs created by Allie Cline Photography are not authorized for third party generative AI training, facial recognition databases, biometric identification, deepfake creation, synthetic imagery, sexualized manipulation, or other unauthorized artificial intelligence uses.
The studio is also implementing stricter practices regarding identifying information associated with photographs of minors and will limit the public disclosure of information such as full names, schools, birth dates, home locations, and other unnecessary identifying details.
Certain photographs of children may also be designated for private delivery only rather than public portfolio or marketing use.
"Children deserve to have their stories documented, and families should still be able to enjoy and proudly share those photographs," Cline said. "The answer is not to stop photographing childhood. The answer is to make sure our approach to consent and privacy evolves with the technology around us."
The updated policies will apply to new sessions with Allie Cline Photography LLC and will be incorporated into the studio's model release and image use authorization process.
