“This conference is a gathering of various faiths in our community to share the support and understanding for the need to provide a place ‘where your past doesn’t matter.’ The My Sister’s House Conference will emphasize the importance of how meaningful a transitional home and non-judgmental encouragement is to the residents of My Sister’s House and justice-involved women,” explained Bonita Simmons, Executive Director and Founder of Tried By Fire, Inc. “The various denominations, faiths, and religious practices are represented by our sisters living at My Sister’s House. We hope this conference will help spread the recognition that we all can use love, without limits, as challenges and opportunities come into our lives,” said Simmons.
Using the platform of faith has been a cornerstone of Tried By Fire, Inc. efforts to provide support and assistance to post-incarcerated women for over twenty-five years. “You have to believe in the power of faith to accomplish what seems impossible, and we have done just that,” Ms. Simmons said. “We believed we could create a home like My Sister’s House to show justice-involved that the impossible can really be a place of change to I’m possible.”
