Job description: New Bern Historical Society Executive Director
Organization: New Bern Historical Society Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization with over 1300 members, a robust calendar of historical programs and events, and several historic properties.
Reports/Relationships: The Executive Director reports to the Executive Committee of the Board of Directors and supervises a team of three, while leading and coordinating a volunteer force of approximately 600.
Key Functions:
· Manage the historic Attmore-Oliver House campus and Battlefield Park
· Direct educational programs and fundraising events
· Develop and grow membership of over 1300
· Oversee publications and scholarships
· Financial management, including sponsorship solicitation, budgeting, grant writing, and financial campaigns
· General bookkeeping
· Manage website and social media
· Liaison with board of directors, members, staff, and community
Requirements:
· Leads by example with character and integrity
· Program management
· Financial management
· Strong interpersonal skills, ability to connect with members, staff, board & volunteers
· Strong verbal and written skills
Soft Skills:
· Passion for history
· Willing to work flexible schedule, including nights and weekends (for events)
· Collaborative individual, capable of leading a small team where all employees assist each other, outside of defined roles at times
· Creative and energetic, flexible and adaptable to change
Preferences:
· Education: Bachelor's Degree
· Leadership: 5 years of nonprofit experience in an ED or similar role
Compensation and Benefits: Salary range of $60K to $70K, based on experience; flexible work schedule; paid time off
