Pancakes for PIE Raises $19,000 to Support Craven County School System Classrooms

Through the generous support of Candice and Adam Simmons, and their staff at
Morgan’s Tavern and Grill, we served 473 delicious breakfast plates featuring generous portions of pancakes, sausage, bacon, orange juice, and coffee. Thanks to breakfast plate sales and sponsorships, the event raised a total of $19,000 for PIE. Don Brinkley, PIE Board President explains, “This event is an excellent opportunity for our community to show their support for Craven County School System. Morgan’s generously donated all proceeds from Pancakes for PIE to fund grant programs in Craven County School System through Partners In Education. The Morgan’s staff gave up their Saturday morning, along with PIE volunteers consisting of teachers, school staff members,
and community supporters to make this tasty tradition a successful event.” Everyone stepped up and did whatever it took to make Pancakes for PIE successful and had fun doing it! At one
point, the pace was so fast that it took every volunteer working together to collect the money, clean the tables, seat guests, and serve pancake plates. Then we did it all over again. When everyone comes together, a high energy event like this becomes truly amazing. Brandy Popp, Chair of the PIE Fund Raising Committee and PIE 1st Vice President, explains, “It is so very giving of Adam and Candice Simmons and their employees to provide the staffing, food, and venue for this event. We all know Morgan’s dishes up excellent food and our volunteers are always up for serving some
‘PIE’! We are thrilled Morgan’s hosted our 10th Annual Pancakes for PIE, and so many people came to start their day with us and then spend it in beautiful downtown New Bern!”
Suzanne Gifford, executive director of PIE, shared her appreciation: “Thank you to everyone who made this event a tremendous success. We are grateful to the businesses who generously sponsored the event and displayed our posters, and to all who liked and shared our posts on social media. Our media partners once again demonstrated their strong commitment to Partners In Education by playing a critical role in spreading the word. And of course, thank you to everyone who joined us for a delicious pancake breakfast in support of PIE. A special shout-out to Santa for taking time out of his busy schedule to join us, and to the New Bern High Chorus  for their spectacular carols.”
Merry Christmas to you and yours!
