Craven CC to showcase programs, career training opportunities during Open House July 1

NEW BERN – Craven Community College (Craven CC) invites the community to attend its annual Open House on Wednesday, July 1 from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in Ward Hall on the New Bern campus. The event offers an opportunity to explore the campus, meet faculty and staff, and learn more about academic programs, admissions, financial aid, and workforce training opportunities.

Designed as a one-stop introduction to Craven CC, Open House will feature representatives from departments across campus, including Admissions, Financial Aid, Academic Advising, and Student Services. Attendees can also learn about flexible course options, including seated, hybrid, and fully online classes with varying start dates and course lengths to accommodate busy schedules.

“This event gives our community a chance to see firsthand the many opportunities available at Craven,” said Zomar Peter, Associate Vice President for Students. “Whether someone is beginning their college journey, preparing for a career change, or looking to build new skills, our faculty and staff are here to help them find the right path forward.”

Academic advisors and faculty members will be available to discuss Craven’s wide range of programs, including:

  • University Transfer – pathways to four-year colleges and universities
  • Career & Technical Programs – hands-on training for in-demand careers
  • Health Sciences – preparation for careers in healthcare
  • Workforce Development – short-term training, continuing education, and job readiness resources
  • Career & College Promise – tuition-free college courses for eligible high school students

Visitors will also have the chance to learn more about student involvement opportunities through Campus Life. Information will be available on student clubs, the Student Government Association, and the Hurst Student Ambassador program, all of which encourage leadership development, community engagement, and networking outside the classroom.

Financial Aid staff will be available to answer questions about grants, scholarships, and other funding opportunities. Representatives will also provide information about the federal work-study program, which allows students to gain professional experience through part-time employment on campus.

In addition, attendees can connect with representatives from the Community Enrichment Program and College & Career Readiness programs. These areas provide opportunities for lifelong learning through classes such as English as a Second Language (ESL), adult high school diploma completion, computer literacy, and personal enrichment courses.

Complimentary chair massages and haircuts will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.

A School Certifying Official will also be present to assist military service members, veterans, and their families with questions regarding educational benefits and the application process.

Prior to the event, the college will also host a Military Resource Fair for all military-affiliated current and prospective students and their families from 3 to 5 p.m.
